My Thoughts About This Cover

I am totally.....in LOVE. Speechless with delight. In a state of "book cover bliss"!!! This is just such an EXQUISITE cover!

As regular readers, and even occasional visitors, are aware, I ADORE the color blue. To me, it's the color above all other colors! Yes, I do get visual delight from other colors, too, but there's nothing, and I mean NOTHING, that can compare to what I feel when I see the color blue, whether it's on a book cover, a sweater, a purse, backpack, hoodie, or whatever

This cover has more of an aqua color, but this is merely a very close cousin of blue, so of course I love it, as well!

Aside from the color, the plant-inspired design is beautiful in the extreme. All of the elements are symmetrically balanced, yet, there are a few that are not, and thus, the image never becomes monotonous or boring to look at.

The whole cover design reminds me of 19th-century stencil art, too. This type of decorative art frequently uses plant motifs.

All of the varied shades of aqua give this cover a very magical feel. I also get a very peaceful feeling from it, which is perfect, because blue is the color of peace and calm. It's as if the reader is going to be transported to a fantasy land, one in which total love reigns.....

Forgive me. I'm a totally die-hard romantic, so I tend to wax poetic about covers at times, lol. This particular cover is one that I wish I could frame and hang up, most likely in the living room.

I also love the way the plants surround the cover text -- the title, author's name, and the smaller text that announces Hoffman as the bestselling author of The Marriage of Opposites.

The brilliant creator of this scrumptious cover is Lewelin Polanco, who is the Senior Designer at Simon & Schuster. I haven't been able to find out much more than this, but Ms. Polanco is now on my list of favorite cover illustrators and designers!

  1. Hi Maria,

This is another great cover. It is striking just how much an artist can do with shades of a single color.

The fact that the authors name is in the one shade that is not bluish or white seems to be effective. I am trying to imagine the cover without this shade of read and I am thinking that it would have been much less interesting.

    Have a great weekend!

    1. Hi, Brian!

I'm glad you love this cover, too!! And you're right -- using only shades of one color can be VERY effective on a book cover!

The whole design is very harmonious. To prevent monotony, Polanco introduced one contrasting color -- in the font for the aurhot's name -- and this is VERY effective indeed. A little contrast goes a long way here, that's for sure.

Thanks for another very insightful comment!! Hope you have a great weekend, too!! :) :) :)
